The Utah State Women’s Soccer team played at home Friday against Mountain West Conference opponent the Wyoming Cowgirls. They won by a score of 2-0 giving them their first conference victory of the season and bringing their record to 5-4-2 (1-1-1 in MWC) for the season.
Ambryn McCallson scored late in the first half, on a beautiful free kick, to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead at the half. Bailee Hammond put away one early in the second half, bringing the score to 2-0, which would prove to be the final score.
The Aggies pressured early and often, really working the Wyoming defense. This was obvious early in the second half, when the Cowgirls let up the second goal. Apparently it was also evident to the players.
“I think we tired them out, their backline was a little flat,” McCallson said.
Head Coach Heather Cairns wasn’t afraid to emphasize the importance of this game.
“These three points were huge,” said head coach Heather Cairns. “We weren’t very happy about our standing after last weekend, but knew we had an important four game homestand.”
The Aggies did a good job opening that homestand with a win, they play Colorado State on Sunday.
