Here at Aggie Radio, we have a lot of different musical tastes among staff members. Here are just a few of my favorite songs to get an idea of one facet that we have here! Enjoy!
1. Cruel World – Lana Del Rey
This is the opening song on Del Rey’s newest album Ultraviolence, and it definitely sets the mood for the whole album. The starlet’s haunting 6-minute ballad is nostalgic of the 60’s and stirs up emotions inside of you that you didn’t even know you had. Listening suggestion: This song is best listened to on an overcast, rainy day.
Favorite line: “With my little red party dress, everyone knows that I’m a mess, I’m crazy.”
2. Together – The xx
The xx can best be described as ‘ambient dream techno pop British trio.’ And if that isn’t a mouthful, I don’t know what is. Together was written for the 2012 The Great Gatsby film. This is such a calm song and yet the tone is yearning and desperate, which is a pretty great combination.
Listening suggestion: The best place to listen to this one is in the dark, laying on your bed and staring at your ceiling, contemplating life.
Favorite line: “You said you don’t have to speak, I can hear you.”
3. Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd
An oldie, but a goodie. Classic rock meets acoustic glory for 5 and a half minutes of pure emotion. #thefeels
Listening suggestion: This one is best listened to on the floor in the midst of an existential crisis.
Favorite line: “We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year, running over the same old ground.”
4. Us Against the World – Coldplay
I feel like Coldplay is everyone’s guilty pleasure. This song was on Coldplay’s 2011 album, Mylo Xyloto, but it’s very ‘old-school Coldplay,’ if you know what I mean. It’s an adorable love song.
Listening suggestion: I like to listen to it imagining I’m on an airplane rushing to see the love of my life. I suggest you do the same for maximum cheesiness levels.
Favorite line: “Through chaos as it swirls, it’s us against the world.”
5. Primadonna – Marina and the Diamonds
I have a special place in my heart for this song, mostly because I feel like it’s an autobiography. It’s all about girl power and defending yourself for being a ‘primadonna.’ Plus it’s upbeat and sassy, so that’s a plus.
Listening suggestion: This song is best listened to while you’re getting ready for the day.
Favorite line: “I know I’ve got a big ego, I really don’t know why it’s such a big deal, though.”

I love Marina and the Diamonds. They are my jams!!!
