This past Thursday, January 22nd, Freddy Gibbs declared world peace. The 24-year-old from Lehi is a Junior here at USU. One might wonder how a person of no political power make such a declaration. The bigger surprise from this announcement is that he actually gained massive support from the residents of Logan.

When Gibbs was told that he was in no position to declare world peace, he held a rally in which there was an estimated 10,000 people in attendance. The rally lasted 4 hours and was mainly filled with marching on main street.

“There was a rally?” asked Jennifer Knudson, a Junior at USU. “I mean I heard the noise, but I just assumed it was an Aggie game. I don’t drive on Main Street anymore since there’s a ton of traffic on it.” We then asked her what she thought of Gibbs declaration. “I mean, it’s rather odd. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for world peace, but I doubt that this guy can unify our country on that, let alone the whole world.”

Mayor of Logan, H. Craig Petersen gave us a few comments on his thoughts of the rally. “It’s fantastic that our community has come together for such a great cause. However, I don’t think this is going to get enough momentum to make the impact that Gibbs wants. I’m sure a few other places will do similar things, but the world we currently live in is a world where violence and death happens. If we could end all wars right now without a negative outcome for everyone then we would take that option, but right now that option isn’t available.”

We tried to get into contact with Gibbs, but were referred to his partner Ash Golding. “The lack of Mayor’s support is a bit aggravating. Instead of helping end wars, he’s just giving us pessimism. If my voice counts, then it should heard around the world. Let’s end all the violence. Trust me, there will be thousands more rallies just like this one.”

As a result, USU student Weston Reynolds has declared world domination.
