In the past few months, four candidates have announced their plans to run for president in the 2016 election.
The only Democrat to have declared candidacy is Hilary Clinton, whom some speculate is using her positions as a woman and the only Democratic representative to push her campaign. Her platform includes increasing minimum wage, providing paid family and medical leave, bettering early childhood education and creating affordable child care.
On the Republican side there are currently three presidential candidates – Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio.
It would appear that Ted Cruz is currently the most conservative candidate. He has openly stated that he is against the Obama presidency and the Affordable Care Act.
Rand Paul, although identifying with the Republican party, seems to have a hybrid conservative and liberal platform. Both parties, he said, have led the country down a ruinous path that has deprived Americans of their civil liberties and jeopardized the financial and personal security of future generations, something which he plans to fix.
Marco Rubio seems to be trying to appeal to older generations to his own by pushing the idea of the “American dream.” He relates to this by using his story of being the son of Cuban immigrants, starting from the bottom and then making it to the place he is now in American politics. Rubio is also pushing to allow investors to cover college students’ tuition in exchange for a percentage of their future earnings.
