John Hartwell has been named as USU’s new Athletic Director, succeeding Scott Barnes, who left last month for the University of Pittsburgh. John has been the AD for the last two years at Troy University.
During his time at Troy, he was the head of many fundraising efforts that led to significant renovations. In his first year at the school, Troy saw success from top to bottom in athletics, led by the baseball team winning the Sun Belt Conference.
Hartwell was the mastermind behind the biggest road payout in College Football last year, as he helped schedule road games against Nebraska and Wisconsin.
John brings with him his wife Dr. Heather Seale Hartwell, as well as two daughters Lauren (aged 5) and Madison (aged 2). He also has a son, Hunter (aged 22), who recently graduated from Vanderbilt University.
A press conference will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the Wayne Estes Center. The event is open to the public.
