The Utah State Volleyball team swept Air Force Academy tonight.

“We served the ball to the right people, our ball control was spot on, and we played really scrappy, and we always were staying in control,” said head coach Grayson DuBose.

Along with DuBose’s comments, Rachel Orr said, “we came out strong and stayed composed the whole match.”

The first set began with a strong lead over Air Force. Right from the beginning Utah State got a big run ahead of Air Force. A combination of Rachel Orr’s killer serves, and Kaitlyn VanHoff’s kills made for a big lead. VanHoff made some of her biggest plays in this first set with no hitting errors and two big kills.

In the first set there was only one time the score was tied, however there were no lead changes. Utah State came out strong and on fire winning the first match with the final score 25-18.

The second set was closer than the first. Air Force started to tighten things up in the set and was in the earlier with strong serves and Utah State hitting errors. Utah State then made a comeback and ended up winning with the score of 25-20. There were 4 tied scores, and 3 different lead changes.

The third set began just the same as the second set. In fact, the third and second set were almost identical. Both teams were fighting extremely hard and brought a lot of power to the court. Combined, Rachel Orr and Kaitlyn Vanhoff had eight kills just in this one set, and only two hitting errors. Maddie Day had back to back aces which gave Utah State the push they needed to finish the set, which would end the match with a win. There were eight tied scores, and three lead changes. Aggies were able to win the third set with the score of 25-20.

Utah State plays at home on Saturday against New Mexico.
