Trap is a genre of music that I have come to love. It took some time because it’s got a weird aftertaste to it. If you’re in the transition period, coming over from some other genre of music, trap might sound dischoradant, off-beat, and pretty much terrible. If you’re a long time electronic music die-hard fan, then I think trap will hit that sweet spot between instrumental hip-hop and something like chill-step pretty perfectly. I have no idea how to describe it because it’s just so strange. This is the Trap.

This is the Blisswave.

1. Troyboi – Memoirs of an Angel

If you need an indication of how strange trap can be sometimes, look no further than Memoirs of an Angel. Troyboi sampled an Enya song and it worked. That takes some guts. Troyboi is my favorite trap artist. Producing from the UK, he likes to make his songs as weird as possible. My favorite part is at 1:26. Really laid back vibes.

2. J.u.D. – Astral

Another gem that has been several times featured on Blisswave Radio. Really eclectic voice sampling and the punchy down-beat set this particular track apart in my mind. It’s short, but still quality listening.

3. Kasbo – Something Sad

Really low key track. I love the little bumps. They almost tickle your ears. It’s a nice sensation. Reminds me of those weird ASMR videos you can watch on YouTube for a similar sensation. If you haven’t looked into ASMR, definitely try it out.

4. Just a Gent – Warlock Masquerade

This one is really funk-inspired. It has an almost Halloween feel to it. Kinda spooky, but still keeps those awesome base lines up. I also like the rapid fire synth lines that kick in about two thirds of the way through the song.

5. Diversa – xxxXXX ($aturn Remix)

Diversa has recently become one of my favorite trap artists. It’s mostly because of his unique style. It’s maybe a weird way to describe it, but it’s perfect late-night internet browsing music. Something about the way it sounds just makes me feel like I’m browsing tumblr or something. See if you feel the same way.

That’s all for this week of the Blisswave. If you want to email suggestions for future themes, or have requests for music you’d like to see featured, email me at ethantrunnell@gmail.com. The only promise I can make is to consider your suggestion. We’ll catch you next week. Until then, feel free to bask in the Blisswaves.
