Coming off of a tough 3-0 loss at Weber State Friday, USU’s Men’s Soccer bounced back to beat BYU Idaho 2-0 on Legacy Fields Saturday.
“We started the first half a little slow”, said Junior Goalkeeper Landon Howard, “but we started passing and possessing the ball a lot better”.
Sloppy passes and a sluggish start led to a quick BYU-I corner kick that put pressure on the Aggies’ defense at the beginning the game. The Utah State midfield, led by Seniors Andrew Nickerson and Matt Cannon, quickly took control of the game and they never let up.
Utah State Midfielder, Burk Sainsbury’s play was one of the highlights of the game. Sainsbury’s tremendous speed and hustle on the wing created many chances for the Aggies offense. Sainsbury sent a cross into the box late in the first half that was finished by a Cody Baum header to put the Aggies up 1-0.
In the 2nd half, it was Midfielder Emilio Zamudio that sent a ball into the side netting to put the Aggies up 2-0.
Next weekend, they travel to Oregon to play Portland Community College on Friday, and Oregon State University on Saturday. Their next home game is October 24 against Salt Lake Community College.
