What to be for Halloween? That is the question that boggles everyone’s mind about a month before this spooky holiday. With unlimited options it’s honestly amazing how many people end up wearing the same costume. They may not all look the same, but it’s obvious that these two people had the same idea. Ranging from cosplay, to whatever is found in the closet or DI at the last minute. There are so many costumes that need to simply stop. They are done again and again every year. What are these costumes? Let me explain the top ten.
1. THE NURSE

Ah the nurse. Such an original thought, not really. Every year dozens of girls dress up as the “hot nurse” in hopes to attract males who fall victim to this costume every year. Not quite sure who wanted to make nurses sexy, but they seem to have done the job and it’s become so popular that it’s not even creative anymore. So over done, and yet still reappears, every year.
2. CAT WOMAN/CATS
These two costumes have also been famous for far too long. What is it with cats anyway? Being a dog person myself, I just find this weird. Batman brings a sexy and dangerous Cat Woman with each new movie. This years model being a slightly more ninja looking one. But again, every year there is a cat woman. If she’s a cat woman or Batman’s enemy or current girlfriend, it’s time to retire the ears and tail.

3. WITCH

The witch. Do I really even need to expound upon it? It’s the same thing every year. She’s either creepy, or under clothed. Their middle ground is just that. Creepy costume with a pretty face. Or sometimes it’s pretty costume and pretty face. Either way there are thousands of witches every year. Others say she’s one of the symbols of Halloween, and that is true. That being said, does that mean every other girl needs to be a witch? Even if they don’t all look the same a witch is a witch. Hopefully there will be less next year.
4. PRINCESSES

Granted, every year or sometimes twice a year, Disney does come out with another princess. So what does every little girl from 5 to 25 years old want to be? That specific princess. I can picture now all the little Anna’s and Elsa’s running around trick or treating or even at the HOWL. Tip to avoid being the same princess. Do the lesser known ones, or ones from previous years who aren’t as popular anymore like Tiana or Merida. Don’t be the cliche’d Anna and Elsa this year. Not everyone can let it go.
5. HEROINES

Wonder Woman, Super Girl, Katniss Everdeen, all powerful heroines who prove you don’t need a man to be strong. Even though it’s been years since Wonder Woman or Super Girl have hit the big screen girls still want to be them for Halloween. Each year there is another way of dressing up like these two powerful women, and every year it says I couldn’t be that creative at the last minute. For example Katniss Everdeen. The girl on fire, the mocking jay, and the hunter are her top three looks that everyone attempts to copy. Those looking for a simple costume go with her leather jacket outfit while others try to mimic the others. Katniss is an amazing character, but if everyone is Katniss.Think of other heroines like….ummm…Google it. I’m sure there’s something less common!
6. HEROS

Alright men, now it’s your turn. Yes, even you have the over the top, overly done costumes. Mostly consisting of the favorite hero of your favorite comic book. Superman being the most iconic and unbeatable, this hero is seen every year. Even if it’s just a shirt with his logo and jeans, he’s still there. Guys, there are so many more hero’s out there. Spiderman for example. He’s a slight cliche, but not nearly as bad as Superman, Captain America or even Batman. Think outside the box!
7. NERD

Oh the humble nerd. So dorky and not very pretty. Like the hero from above has also become very washed up. Nerd is an easy cheap costume yes it’s true. Guys, you are better than this! Everyone’s Superman but is anyone Clark Kent, or even Peter Parker? Those guys make some pretty attractive nerds. Being the cliche’d nerd is now done. Time to find a nerd who deserves attention.
8. SCREAM

This guy was once the star of my nightmares. Now, he’s just another over-used costume. Of all the horror movies villain to pick from he’s always one of the first to come to mind. Look at him, I can’t blame you, he’s freaky. Though if you plan to scare someone with that, you better be good at scaring. This guy alone won’t do it anymore, he’s been seen far to often every year.
9. ATHLETES

Well seeing them on T.V just isn’t enough anymore. Now we need to see your favorite player every year. While the players specifically may differ, the idea doesn’t. It’s as common as all these other costumes. I know some of you will say I’m different because I’m a soccer player. Athletes in general are tried and done. Sorry guys, maybe go as something you hate. That should change things up.
10. THE JOKER

Why so many jokers? It’s been a few years since the movie came out. While the joker in The Dark Knight was beyond amazing, it’s time to move past him. He has been honored a thousand times over, time to move on to another super cool and crazy psycho. I’m talking Bane, Slade, even The Green Goblin would be good. You hardly see any of them right? Time to lay the joker to rest.
Hopefully this gave some insight as to what to avoid this Halloween season. Maybe you’ll allow yourself to be more creative and mindful as to what costumes you’ll want to be.
