The Utah State Volleyball team beat San Jose State in four sets to end the night by lighting the A blue. An especially great night for Kaitlyn VanHoff, who had a 500th career block in the game, and Rachel Orr recorded 1,000th career kill.
“The overall night was just fun and exciting,” VanHoff said.
The Aggies started off the first set with a strong lead over the Spartans. USU was in the lead right from the beginning throughout the whole set. There were no lead changes and no ties. They start the set off with a lead of 5-0. It was fun to watch the Aggies have a lot of fun out on the court and to bond together as a team. The first set ended in a demolishing score of 25-11.
The second set was almost identical to the first set. Utah State came out on fire and with a lot of power. There were no lead changes throughout the set, with one tied score. San Jose started to make a comeback near the end, but Utah State pulled through and won the second set with a score of 25-17.
The Aggies then dropped the third set.
“As a team, we lost focus, and had a lot of tiny errors,” said Garrison Dubose, USU’s head coach.
In the third set, there were nine different times with where the score was tied and three lead changes. The first half of the set was close, but the end of the set, San Jose started getting on a role and pulled forward. USU nearly made a good comeback, but San Jose ended the set with the win 25-23.
The Aggies came back out with a new mindset and a new determination to finish the game in the fourth set. They started off with a strong lead over San Jose 10-5. There were tied scores and no lead changes in this set. Utah State was on fire and ready to win the match. They had one of their best blocking and hitting sets.
Utah state improves to 3-2 in conference on the season and will take on Nevada at home on Saturday.
