The girl on fire has returned for movie number three. With action and suspense around every corner, Mockingjay Part 1 is a must see this holiday season – whether you’ve read the books or not!
In the first part of the epic finale of The Hunger Games trilogy, Katniss is in deep despair. Having just survived the Quarter Quell she is still racked with guilt for loosing Peeta, who is now being held captive in the Capitol. Katniss is driven mad with not knowing if the boy with bread is alive or dead.
Now living in the unknown underground of District 13, Katniss is given the opportunity to be the face of the revolution. Being the Mockingjay would allow her to do more than hide underground from the horror in the districts. Riots and rebellions have spread along with the war. Her home district paid the ultimate price, and was bombed right after she destroyed the arena in the Quarter Quell. After seeing the destruction of her home, she chooses to become the Mockingjay. With a few conditions of course.
Going out onto the battlefield is no easy feat. With Gale at her side, however, it’s like she’s back to hunting in District 12. Cutting down the Capitol at every opportunity, the rebels are not going down with out a fight.
If you have read the books, you will be very satisfied with how accurate the movie is. The directors added a few details, but they’re nothing that would ruin the books. If you have not read the books or seen the other movies, I would highly recommend you do so before you see this movie. The background from the past few movies is essential to making sense of the film. For those who have read the book, it does end where you think it will. The ending was done so well, I was nearly in tears. The actors truly performed their roles to perfection. The effects were astounding as well.
We thank Phillip Seymore Hoffman for his talent for the character Plutarch Heavensbee. There was a tribute to him before the credits rolled at the end of the movie. He will be truly missed.
Mockingjay Part 1 will have you laughing and crying. You see Katniss rise from the ashes of her destroyed life. The games may have destroyed her, but she regains her sense of self and uses all of the anger she can to save Petta and destroy President Snow.
Grab a date, a group of friends, or even go with your family after Thanksgiving dinner and see Mockingjay Part 1 this weekend.
