The close has come to the careers of Chuckie Keeton, Kyler Fackrell, David Moala and the rest of the seniors for the Aggies in a 23-21 loss to The University of Akron in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
The Aggies returned to Boise for the third time in the last five years for the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Akron accepted an invitation to a bowl game for only the second time in the program’s history, with the last being the Motor City Bowl in 2005.
Akron started the scoring with a 14 yard touchdown only five minutes into the game. The rest of the first half moved at a slow pace, with the next score not occurring until 2:53 remaining in the half. The Aggies found the endzone with 1:32 left in the half when Kent Myers found Brandon Swindall. The senior wideout had a standout performance with 2 touchdowns, both coming near the end of each half. However, when asked about his individual performance, Swindall said that it “meant nothing, coming out of here with a loss.” Anyone who knows or has been around Swindall knows this is a common mindset, being a player that from day one at Utah State has put the team’s success before his own.
The Zips were able to celebrate the first bowl win in the program’s history in style, by awarding the MVP to none other than the… kicker. This may not seem that odd when you factor in that he made good on every possibility from quite a distance (33, 29, 46).
