Ringing in the new school year, Aggie Radio and USUSA have teamed up to put on the annual Big Agg Show, a highly-anticipated festival with a rousing lineup of local alternative acts. This year, many of the groups are coming from near and far. One band featured on this year’s lineup is Friends At The Falls, a five-piece founded in Mahopac, New York but with current roots in California.
Their career as musicians is a relatively new one, as they’ve been a functioning creative group for the span of two years. During that time, the band has released two EPs, We Are Friends, and Wild In Our Ways, and took the plunge to move from their small town in New York to the bustling urban life of Los Angeles.
“Moving to L.A. was an artistic choice; the decision was to feel a bit of discomfort, to sink or swim,” said Jake Stam, vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the group. “It’s a really beneficial atmosphere for networking and finding the right management for us, as new artists. New York treated us right, we feel at home there but L.A. was the final push for us, collectively, to get our foot in the door.”
With this move, there has also been development in the band’s sound. With their two EPs andheadlining experience in their home state as well as out on the coast, these alternative rockers have hit the ground running and aren’t planning on stopping any time soon.
Matt Montgomery, FATF’s drummer, says the group has “forty unreleased songs that are potential singles,” while only having three songs planned to be released to the public within the next four to five months—the first of the trio being released on August 30th, the day following their performance on USU soil.
“You Don’t Have To Be Alone,” the soon to be released single, is a song the band is excited to put out, if anything to see their fans reaction to their budding new sound.
When it comes to songwriting, FATF views it as a collaborative effort as well as a way to promote “being a force of positive energy.” This energy translates into all this bunch of native New Yorkers do, making them ones to watch within the next few months.
