A recent poll was taken among the incoming freshman here at USU. It was a simple poll that asked the new students what the main reasons were that they decided to attend USU. The results were a bit shocking.
Apparently, “Aggie Ice Cream” led the poll as the top reason freshman came to USU. It held the top with 42%, while Aggie “Football/Basketball” took second at 37%, and “Friends” took third at 15%. “It’s really disappointing,” said Anthony Checketts, head of academics. “Students are taking their education less seriously than ever before.” With “Class Choices” at 3% and “Major Availability” at 1% it’s easy to understand why Checketts is angry.
“It’s apparent that students have become more interested in student life, than their future career. While friends, football, and ice cream all have their place in our lives, they shouldn’t necessarily take precedence.”
Jacob Bower, a freshman at USU, disagrees with Checketts on this matter. “Why would I go to a college that I wouldn’t have a good experience at?” asks Bower. “Sure going to college sort of helps you out with a career, but more importantly, it’s your last chance to do whatever you want.”
When asked about the accuracy of the poll, Bower disagreed slightly. “I think there’s people out there who came to Utah State just to be an Aggie. That’s what I did! I wouldn’t be surprised if there was also a majority of people that came because their parents kicked them out of their house. That was one of my major reasons. I don’t feel those answers were apparent on these polls.”
As a result of the poll, the admissions office will now hand out free aggie ice cream at football games to groups of friends.

Hahaha, who can blame them for coming here for Aggie Ice Cream? It’s amazing! 🙂
